The inconvenient truth about Al Gore

The inconvenient truth about Al Gore

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded each year to the person or group of people that best exemplify qualities of uniting the fraternity of nations in hopes of improving the current state of the world. This year the award went to former vice president Al Gore and the United Nation Intergovernmental panel on climate change. Global Warming seems to be a primary focus of today’s society. Also, it seems that it has been proven that it is more then some bogus claim. But, how much can we trust Al Gore as the leader of this movement. His recent documentary, The Inconvenient Truth, has become almost the golden standard for teaching the public of this “imminent danger.” However, to an uneducated audience obvious biases cannot be seen and exaggerated science is hard to spot. The fact is, The Inconvenient Truth has been so highly scrutinized by real scientists that it can hardly be taken for truth.

Let’s start out with the obvious; Al Gore is not a scientist. Actually, while he was attending Harvard he took the minimum of required science courses where he barely passed with a “C.” True, he never intended to be a Scientist but if he scored so low in introduction level science courses what gives him the right to interpret the complexities of Global warming? Personally, I plan on listening to what the scientists same. Another thing Al Gore falls short on is practicing what he preaches. During the Inconvenient Truth Al Gore specifically bashes American automobiles and their low amount of efficiency. But upon close examination one can clearly see that the vehicle Mr. Gore is being driven in is none other then a Cadillac Escalade. Also, he talks of all the travel ventures he has made world wide specifically trying to spread his message about the environment. Is it me or should Al Gore know how much carbon emissions are being dumped into the atmosphere with every flight he takes. With the advent of new technologies such as the internet, which he claims to have invented, could he not take the “green” approach and simply send his message world wide? In effect, he also talks of how inefficient American homes are run. Reality check, Mr. Gores thirty room mansion in Nashville consumes twenty times the national power average. Even his guest home consumes more energy then most homes. And back to the issue of vehicles, it is not reported that Al Gore has one hybrid vehicle insured under his name. If he does not even practice the life that he advocates what right does he have to tell the public of how to live their lives at all. Most real scientists are not even a fan of his science. The fact that Mr. Gore shows pictures of polar bears on floating ice caps as a method of fear mongering shows his true tactics. He is not intending to educate. Rather, he is scaring people to follow his life style.

Mr. Gore specifically tells people to follow the “green” method. He has convinced some big name celebrities and famous friends to also advocate this. One friend that is not well known, however, is Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch is in control of the largest portion of media in the world. What he chooses to put in the media can swing public opinion and consumerism. Mr. Gore and Mr. Murdoch are also business men. Both have large stakes in a wide array of “green” products. This means that every person that buys one of these products fuels their personal wealth. For those who maintain belief that if the ends justify the means why even care the path that Al Gore is taking. With the financial uncertainty of the time, specifically America’s economic issues such as the low rate of the dollar we can not afford to have our Government’s focus and more importantly money spent on global warming measures that are not necessarily important expenditures. The public needs to listen to the information supplied by scientists, not by politicians. The issue of global warming does not rely in political rhetoric but rather scientific research.
