Facebook for grownups? Well, not exactly. But CEO and Harvard Business Grad, Dan Nye, is hoping to gain similar success with his new social networking site, LinkedIn. LinkedIn is designed to help working adults maintain connections with people within the professional business world. This not only extends to people that users currently work with, but people they went to school with, people within their field, and friends they have made in other sorts of business disciplines. The result is a place online that connects everyone in the business world together.
Sounds like an incredible gimmick right? Well its not. Already, LinkedIn has over fifteen million users who regularly use the site and praise its many features. A personal favorite of CEO Dan Nye is the search feature. This allows users to look up anyone they have previously met or would like to seek out. With LinkedIn people can maintain as many connections as possible. And in the business world where, who you know makes you who you are, there is a plethora of opportunities gained by simply becoming a member. If things go as Mr. Nye hopes, literally every working adult in the professional world will have a LinkedIn account.
The site also has an incredible ability to expand by its IPO status. This allows LinkedIn to directly make money, which Mr. Nye claims, will go right into further developing the site. And with its increased popularity, people are using LinkedIn for things such as hiring. Even as a fledge wing company people are utilizing the capabilities of this site far beyond mere connections. This makes me wonder, what else could LinkedIn be offering in the future? If it encompasses the lives of adults as Facebook has on teens it is going to become a pivotal part of how business is done in the future. For lack of a better saying the sky is truly the limit for LinkedIn.
