YES - The effects of travel-related stress on dietary choice

YES - The effects of travel-related stress on dietary choice

The diet of a person is the totality of the solid and liquid food consumed by the individual. Diet includes both healthy and unhealthy foods, and the choice of diet can have a great beneficial or negative impact upon the overall health of the person. The effects of dietary choices upon health are well understood. Less understood is the effect of the environment upon the decisions made every day regarding what to eat. This project looked at potential relationships between perceived stress related to transportation and dietary choices. It was found that males and females had different responses to travel-related stress with regard to their dietary choices; females tended to eat more fruits and vegetables than males at low to moderate levels of perceived stress. Females also drank more coffee than males at the same level of perceived stress. The results suggest that encouraging males who have higher levels of perceived stress due to transportation to eat more fruits and vegetables would be beneficial.
